OUR HEROES

Enrique Jardel

“The Forest Fire Expert”

Enrique Jardel is part of the “lumbreros,” a team of researchers who combat forest fires through controlled burns. His work has contributed to a deeper understanding of wildfire management. In addition to collaborating with environmental organizations and advisory groups, he was part of the founding team of the Manantlán Biosphere Reserve in Jalisco, where he has shown that fighting fire with fire can be both necessary and effective.

José Carlos Martínez

“The Forest Entrepreneur”

José Carlos Martínez is a forestry engineer from Chapingo University. Since childhood, he dreamed of a world with more forests. Today, as Director of Innovation at Reforestamos México, he helps develop businesses focused on forest conservation and restoration. His story proves that entrepreneurship and environmental protection can grow hand in hand.
Reforestamos has worked with more than 500 companies and over 2,000 entrepreneurs across Mexico and Latin America. José Carlos Martínez’s work has been key to these achievements.

Elsa Esquivel

Elsa is an agroecological engineer and ecosystem services specialist. She has always believed that forest loss and abandonment must be prevented at all costs. Through the AMBIO cooperative, she has promoted sustainable community-based forest management in Chiapas and Oaxaca, strengthening rural communities across Mexico. She was also a pioneer in the design and implementation of Scolel’te, the world’s longest-running environmental services credit program.
