OUR HEROES

Cristina Cortinas

“The Waste Expert”

Dr. Cristina Cortinas is Mexico’s leading expert in toxic and hazardous substances. For more than twenty years, she conducted research at UNAM’s Institute of Biomedical Research, studying the genetic effects of chemical pollutants and toxic materials. She has advised legislative initiatives focused on banning hazardous substances, improving waste management, and promoting circular economies in communities across Mexico.

Jahir Mojica

“The Alchemist”

Jahir Mojica set out to transform waste management in Mexico. After years of research and experimentation, he now develops innovative waste treatment systems. Among his most remarkable creations is a “living laboratory”: a biodigester that converts organic waste into energy and nutrients for the soil, reshaping the way waste is managed in Milpa Alta, Mexico City.

Alejandra Valdez

“The Material Rescuer”

Alejandra Valdez has never stopped believing in the power of small actions. Her story follows the creation of Ecolana, a platform that promotes and simplifies recycling and waste reuse. Together with her partners, she built Mexico’s largest recycling directory.
